The film industry is similar to the music industry is some ways, as the music industry has the Big three, the film industry has the Big Eight. The big eight are the ones who own the ten major filming studios and theese are :
1.20th century fox
2.Walt Disney company
3.Paramount Pictures
4.Sony
5.Time Warner
6.NBC
the film industry all works in 6 different parts which are:
1.Development
2.Production
3.Facilities
4.Distribution
5.Exhibition
6.Export
The most favourited studios and most rememberable in society today are : Warner Brons,Universal Studios and Walt Disney.
In the year 2001 the gross profit generated by the film industry was over £40 billion, and over 70% of the population went to the cinema regularly or rented films from shops like Blockbuster. However nowadays shops like Blockbuster have been closed down as they werent making enough revenue or profit to be able to run anymore, also there has been a decline in the numbes visting the cinema in recent years. This can be due to over technology that is creating this decline e.g downloading films onto computers or watching them on sky or other film channels for example Netflix. However the film industry is still popular and companies using horizontal integration have allowed themselves to develop and become more well known than others.Using cross media convergence the film industry have been able to reach out to different audiences throughout the population, it also allows them to advertise on a bigger scale as more technology is available nowadays.
